Some Random Stuff

Hey folks,
I don't know why but short weeks are rough. Last week seemed to go on forever, after Labor Day.
Of course, we had a lot going on.
We went out Wednesday night to attend a book signing by Terry Brooks (author of the Shannara epic fantasy series-of-series) He's a real nice guy-- I think I met him first in '88 here in DC-- and perked up when I mentioned the reviews I've done for SFRevu. His sister has a book in the works and hopefully we'll review it when it comes out.
Thursday night we went to join our usual pack of comic book readers, the former UCBB (alas), and were out kind of late. We weren't lucky with trains and got home around 10.
And Friday night was First Friday for WSFA (Washington Science Fiction Association). Fun bunch of folks, and I picked up the newest Wild Cards novel in ARC form. I'm reading it now for review.
Well, that was our week last week. I mentioned T.S. Hanna already. Good news: my mom got through Gustav just fine, but now they're worried about Ike. I think I could hate Ike...
Hm.

Fourth of July and so on

Geez, has it been a week since I last posted? Guess so.
Kat and I had a really good Fourth of July. We didn't get any workouts in during the week but made up for it by... eating a lot at the WSFA barbecue. John and Kathi opened their home to a huge number of us, displaying their amazing generosity once again, and we ate like kings. Can't say enough great things about the barbecue. (And we got to see them make liquid nitrogen ice cream again, which is always a blast.)
A huge thanks to Lee, btw, for making sure we got there-- he's a great friend.
We left the party with our other great friends, Ern and EJ, Paul and Gayle, to catch WALL-E (for the second time for Kat and me). You can see my review here.
I stayed home most of the weekend, puttering around and getting some writing done, while Kat went out and did her Sunday thing. All in all, pretty fun.

Some new stuff (finally!)

Hey everyone,
It's been a crazy few weeks. Two weeks ago, as of my birthday-week, I/we have:

• gone to a Weird Al Yankovic concert (the guy rocks!!),
• attended a WSFA meeting,
• took a trip to New Jersey for my sister's 40th birthday,
• interviewed for a job at NIJ (that I didn't get--big deal).

And Kat took a trip to NYC that involved:

• an early morning jog from our condo to Van Dorn Metro (it's about a mile away)
• nightmare difficulties getting home on Sunday (she ended up traveling 7.5 hours, I was traveling for about four)

All in all, it's been a rough couple weeks.

And I know I owe you pictures of the kittens. We do have some real neat ones but are still stuck on the names. Janet and Chrissy may well end up being their names, who knows.
