Other News

November was kind of a "lost month" for me-- I had some health issues that weren't life-threatening but were debilitating, painful and frustrating. But these things happen and I'm getting better. Felt like my old self for the first time in weeks as of Monday.

********

Reading Batman: Gotham Knight, Louise Simonson's adaptation of the direct-to-DVD animated feature (which, sadly, might be the last time Kevin Conroy voices the Dark Knight). I'm enjoying it greatly-- I hope we'll be seeing more from her real soon!

********

Did an interview for SFRevu last month with Jim Butcher. Turns out he's a real nice guy, funny as heck and about as down-to-earth as a novelist can be. There are some real good anecdotes about Harry Dresden in the piece, so give that a look too.

Same issue has my review of By the Sword, the latest Repairman Jack novel by F. Paul Wilson. Paul's a great guy, too, and a fellow Jerseyan, plus one heck of a great writer.

********

Brielle is now kicking up a storm. Kat thinks she'll be a soccer player. 27 weeks and counting.

That's all for the moment. More soon!

Where did this week go?

Hey folks,

It's been a busy week. Kat had her birthday on Wednesday and we celebrated with dinner at Jaleo, then a visit to see the gang at Fantom Comics. Wackiness didn't precisely ensue but we did have fun hanging out with everyone. We also agreed that we'll be seeing Speed Racer this Sunday. Based on the reviews, I think I'd better bring dramamine if not Pepto-Bismol.

Still getting ready for the trip to England. Can't wait!

Other than that, I've been reading Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Norville novels. Kitty is a werewolf who hosts a nationally syndicated radio show discussing the supernatural. So far I've read the first two books; though werewolves aren't normally my favorite supernatural critter (and I've gotten pretty tired of vampires, sinceI'm discussing this), she makes Kitty and her supporting characters really come alive. I'll be keeping with this series as long as she's writing them.

Also on deck: Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson #4) by Rick Riordan. I've always loved Greek mythology; Riordan has a great knack for weaving ancient myths seamlessly into an ongoing tale of a boy who's Poseidon's son. Definitely one to follow, if you like urban fantasy YA (and who doesn't?).

I might have a Bugles Planet post coming up soon. Oh, and my review of Iron Man over at SFRevu? The folks at Marvel Comics took a peek at it and liked it a lot. Very very glad to hear that!

That's about all for now. See ya!

Review Mania Coming!

I have a TON of reviews to get written by tomorrow-- SFRevu's February issue goes live on Friday and I have a lot of stuff to do between now and then.

Such as reviews for:
MAGIC OF TWILIGHT by SL Farrell;
RUSH OF WINGS by Adrian Phoenix;
LAST DAYS OF KRYPTON by Kevin Anderson;
SMALL FAVOR by Jim Butcher (not out till April, but we want to be early);
DARK WRAITH OF SHANNARA by Terry Brooks et al (another April release but a very fast read--graphic novel sequel to Wishsong of Shannara);
STAR WARS: DARTH BANE-RULE OF TWO by Drew Karpeshyn (like that first name!);
and a few more I can't recall off the top of my head.

Plus an interview we did in November with Jane Yolen, who's probably wondering why it hasn't run by now.

In short, I have a lot of writing to do. Ah, the adventurous life of a sci fi reviewer...
